N: Non Verbal Communication
There are many forms of non verbal communication. Although non-verbal forms such as facial expression, shoulder shrugging, or stance taking are non verbal they do, of course, require in person face to face encounters.
All social media are non verbal communications. Verbal phone conversation has been replaced by email and texting. These, of course, do not require any personal contact.
Expressing emotion in a text or an email can be tricky. I always put my own interruptive voice to the text or email when I am reading it. Do you?
For example:
"Sorry, have plans, can't make it this weekend." could be interpreted as having a breezy, ho-hum, careless attitude.
But the intent by the sender may have been: "I am so sorry that I can't make it this weekend. I have plans that I can't change. :(.
I have seen comments and tweets left by individuals who most likely would not speak the same way to the person they are addressing if it were a face to face or phone conversation.
Personally, I am just a shy blogger who finds it easer to communicate her feelings through writing, shoulder shrugs, facial expressions and hand gestures...Italian heritage, you know.

I have created a page for Anna's Diary. It can be found under the Tab titled Anna's Diary.
I have posted all of the entries to date there, starting with January 1, 1929.
Here is today's entry from Anna's Diary:
Tues. April 16, 1929
Had appointment at Yvette Beauty Parlor. Met Jewel and Edythe for lunch. Rained madly. Went to Anges C's birthday party in Kearny.
Now if Anna had tweeted this it might look something like this:
At Yvette's for mani/pedi. Great lunch @jewel, @edythe! With @Agnes in Kearny for Happy Bday party. #rainedmadly

I think most of us do the interpretive thing and I know a lot of times I am hyperaware when I am leaving a comment or sending a text or email or whatever to ways the other person might misperceive my intention. I tend to overuse emoticons to try to head that off at the pass sometimes, I think.
