April 2016
This month I will be participating in the “Blogging from A-Z Challenge”
What is it?
Blogging every day. It begins on April First with a topic themed on something with the letter A, then on April second another topic with the letter B as the theme, and so on until I finish on April thirtieth with the theme based on the letter Z. The theme of the day is the letter scheduled for that day.
Video Editing
In my post for the letter "P", I wrote about our first attempt at creating a podcast video. Ross and I actually had a lot of fun making it. The title we came up with for the podcast was "On the Patio With Lynda and Ross". I admit I insisted on top billing.
As I mentioned in that post, filming was the easy part of the process. The learning curve was editing the video.
I wanted to use iMovie to do the editing and polishing.
I found a YouTube video by Eric Timmer titled iMovie Tutorial For Beginners.
So in essence, I watched a video on how to edit a video.
Eric's tutorial was easy to follow and I did learn the basics.
But since I had no experience at all in using that type of software, I found the task to be challenging, and at times frustrating, to say the least.
However, when I start a project, particularly one that is challenging, I am patient and tenacious. And while it took me about three hours to complete the editing process, I was proud of myself for sticking with it and quite pleased with the final cut.
One thing I was not happy with, though, was the time it took for the video to upload to my Mac. But, it could be my Mac. It is running very slow lately. I really have to schedule a visit to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.
As a side track, Apple describes their Genius Bar like this:
'What to expect at the Genius Bar.
Before you come in for your reservation, be sure to back up the data on the device that needs help. When you get to the Apple Store, ask a team member to check you in to the Genius Bar, or check in using the Apple Store app on your iPhone. During your session, your Genius will gather information about your system and answer your questions. If your product requires repair, the Genius will discuss repair options, explain any applicable charges, and prepare your equipment for repair. Most sessions last about 15 minutes, but some may take longer, depending on the issue."
I like that they refer to the technician as "your Genius"
Anyway, back to today's topic. On Sunday, Ross and I recorded episode two of On the Patio.
I am becoming more comfortable with iMovie. By episode ten, I will probably be a wiz!
And the Oscar for best Podcast Video Editing goes to....
What about you? Do you like a challenge? Do you stick with it until it is completed?
Good for you for working persistently on this! I remember when I was trying to figure out how to download books onto my tablet to read. Took a bit to figure it out, but I kept working on it until I finally got it right :)

I'm that way with a new knitting pattern. I keep at it until I get it!
DeleteI don't like a challenge when it comes to technology because there is always some little thing that I don't get that halts the process and leaves me flailing about. When I do figure it out I can't believe I spent so much time on that one little thing.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that I never learned to do is swim. My fear is too great. At this point I can't even think about trying.
DeleteYes, I do love a challenge. Video editing is something I've never done but have wanted to. Perhaps that is in my future.

Give it a try. It can be a creative experience.
DeleteI love a challenge and I love to learn new things. I too want to make a podcast. I haven't started yet because my schedule has been so weird and my plate has been running over, but you have given me encourage. I think first I will look at a tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI am tenacious. I have lost many hours of sleep because I refuse to give up until I have a handle on something that is not working correctly. Also with writing, I will hang in there until that sentence that I am dissatisfied with become the sentence that I want. I won't just write anything and say forget it.
Visiting from the A to Z Blog Challenge.
Shalom,

I can relate to your tenacity. Sometimes I refer to it as a feeling of being obsessed.
DeleteI usually will stick it out when learning something new! And I go to You Tube a lot for educational purposes! The kids use Imovie at school for their movie-making skills!!
ReplyDeleteI use YouTube as a resource for difficult knitting and crochet patterns. That's neat that the kids are learning this technology in school.
DeleteYeah, if there's some reason why I'm attempting it, I'll keep at it until I get it. Video editing is a challenge, but I'm glad you stuck with it. You'll be a pro in no time.
ReplyDeleteThe way you work through a pattern I can tell you will keep at something until you get it.
DeleteYou're right, If I continue with the video editing, I can see myself getting better at it.
Well... my husband is a film editor, so I have no need to try! He edits films for the BBC, documentaries and wildlife films. The sort that have David Attenborough in. So an expert. I have never tried it. BUT I do love learning how to do stuff, and never give up. Today I was learning how to put text on a spiral in photoshop, which i learned, like you, from a youTube video. Nowadays it's so easy! To set your mind at rest, there is a lot of digital information in a film. It does take along time to upload whether your mac is new or not.
ReplyDeleteYour husband's job sounds so interesting. Hmm, how to put text in a spiral. Wow! Thanks for letting me know that my Mac is probably working okay.

ReplyDeleteI tend to like a challenge more in theory than in practice--my frustration level tends to go off the charts if I can't figure something out fairly quickly. But, like you, I will keep trying because the more ticked off I get, the more important it is to me to master the skill to make all that frustration pay off in the end. :)
ReplyDeleteWill be back sometime soon to check out episode 2. :)
I tend to get totally immersed. I too, want the pay off at the end.
